We Scanned Real Affiliate Landing Pages for FTC Compliance — Here's What We Found

Rather than write another generic "affiliates should disclose more" post, we decided to actually check. We ran our own Compliance Checker against several real, well-known weight-loss and supplement affiliate landing pages — the kind that show up constantly in ClickBank top-offer lists — and scored them against six core FTC compliance checks: fake or unverified testimonials, false urgency, unsubstantiated results claims, missing disclaimers, misleading before/after claims, and guaranteed-results language.

The results

Across five real sites scanned, the average compliance score came out to 56 out of 100. More strikingly: 5 out of 5 (100%) had no visible affiliate disclosure at all on their landing page. Every single one also had at least one issue flagged as high-severity — most commonly unsubstantiated results claims or language implying guaranteed outcomes without evidence.

Individual scores ranged from 70 down to 40, with the lowest scores driven by a combination of manufactured urgency ("Save $660 + 2 Free Bonuses"), guaranteed-results phrasing, and completely absent disclosure language.

What this actually tells us

This isn't a "gotcha" against any specific brand — it's a snapshot of how normalized these gaps have become across an entire product category. When 100% of a small real sample is missing a legally required disclosure, that's not a handful of bad actors, it's closer to the industry default. It matches the broader research finding that fewer than half of affiliates and influencers consistently follow disclosure rules at all.

Why this matters if you're an affiliate promoting similar products

If your own content links to or promotes offers structured like the ones above, that non-compliance risk doesn't stay contained to the original seller — affiliates who repost, review, or link to non-compliant claims can carry their own disclosure exposure, independent of what the original landing page does or doesn't say. Your own page still needs its own compliant disclosure regardless of what the product's own page does.

You can run this same check against your own content, or any competitor's landing page, in about ten seconds using our free Compliance Checker — 5 scans a month at no cost, unlimited for $19/mo.
